How We Met….

I think it would be funny to share some stories about how we met one another…..those first contacts that willl always stick in our minds.  I, Rob Weed, have three I’d like to share.

1.  Trisha Mulqueen….Julie Finegan….Cindy Kropp….Alicia Summers…and Jon McGovern…..was Steve Liberace there too? 

Rob Weed:    I grew up spending my summers at my parents’ shore house in Ocean City, NJ.  Luckily for me, and my friends, they went home to PA during the week while I stayed down and “worked.”  Yes, I did work, but it was always after my waitering job that the parties began.

It was about two weeks before I was to head to MSM for my freshman year.  I was having a party, during the week of course, and many of my shore friends were coming over for one last hurrah.  Trisha Mulqueeen and I knew each other from mutual friends, so she came.  She brought with her “some girl named Julie Finegan.”  All I knew about her was that she was from West Chester as well and was going to be going to The Mount.  Some one brought another “girl from West Chester” who was going to be a freshman at The Mount.  It was Alicia Summers.  She knew everyone I knew practically.  I never figured out why we had never met before.  Jon McGovern and I had gone to Salesianum together, so he was there.  I think Cindy Kropp came with some one else…she and Trisha knew one another from their highschool, but they didn’t hang out back then.  I think Steve Liberace was down at the shore that week too.  I don’t remember.  Overall, I just remember it being a bizarre party with all these people that would soon be my classmates in a couple weeks at Mt St Mary’s.

2.   Maryanne Donohue

Rob Weed: I remember sitting outside Sheridan during our first weekend at The Mount – Orientation Weekend.  It was late at night and we were sitting in the grass outside Chet and Jamie’s window.  (I should say Molly Kennedy and Jen Concino’s window too, becaue they were always there reliving York Catholic days or something.)  All I remember is Maryanne Donohue pulling grass out of the ground and asking if these “Weeds” were my relatives.  (I don’t think she had been drinking)

3.   Sue Kilkenny and Kristy Burnes

Rob Weed: It was the first weekend with upper classmen at MSM.  I was with Kristy and Sue and we were walking out of the SUB as The Rat was ending.  I thought Kristy and Sue already knew each other, while Sue thought Kristy and I knew each other, while Kristy thought Sue and I knew each other.  None of us knew anyone basically.  Someone in a jeep pulled up in front of us on College Lane and asked if we wanted to go to a party.  They said we were welcome to come but would have to ride on the back of the jeep b/c it was full.  I remember we all kind of looked at one another and said, “OK.”  Off we went to what we later learned was Locke and Bres’ house.  I didn’t meet Jerry Sullivan for a few more weeks, but we met his sister that night…she was at the party.  “What was that purple thing in the living room?” I wondered to myself.
