The Time We had the Blizzard…

Remember senior year when we had the blizzard?  I remember that the momentum had been building all week as the weather people were anticipating “The Big One!”  How did we prepare?  We didn’t buy cereal, toilet paper, milk or eggs.  Why would we do that?  Instead, we bought beer….and tons of it!  That campus was probably stocked better than any other weekend we ever experienced.  Yes, probably better than Ring Dance Weekend.

I remember that the weekend started off with Megan and Chrissy’s blizzard party on Friday night.  The whole school was there and not even one flake had fallen yet!  We all stumbled our way back down the hill to campus…it was freezing cold and we were waiting for it to start.

Saturday morning came early.  As we got up to get a glass of water and advil, we saw that the storm was here.  B-Tower residents relocated to Alicia, Dori, Sue, and Aimee’s apartment for the breakfast party.  That really got it going, and it was all down hill from there.  I remember the snow was coming down so hard and accumulating by the doors that we had trouble closing the main glass doors to the stairwells.  By now, Molly was running around the apartment and stairwell with Party Pete!  Enough said about that!

By afternoon, we were in Sean Raymond’s room with 48 cases and rocking out.  The shower was full of beer and the lights kept flickering…..I recall Mundie getting frustrated b/c he was DJ-ing but the power kept going off and on.  I remember Sean Malone and Fr tom came and explained that Pang and Sheridan had been evacuated due to lack of electricity.  Now, it was our turn…we had to leave the apartments.  No one wanted any part of that.  I remember people pulling that typical line, “Our parents pay for these rooms!  We’re not leaving!”  Everyone turned their backs, Mundie cranked the music back up, and the dance party resumed.  Father Tom stood there…pissed!  …The only man that can sweat in a snowstorm…beside Klepper!  He left pretty infuriated with us.  I remember Sean Malone came back saying something like, “I don’t care if you guys take the beer to the terrace….just go…please!”  That was one of my funniest memories of The Mount – the journey to the Terrace that afternoon.  While the freshmen crried blankets and pillows, the seniors carried case upon case of beer.

Pretty soon, the lounges and hallways on the terrace were filled with people – people everywhere.  Even the RA’s had given in and were partying.  What time was it?  Maybe 4pm by now?  Most of B-Tower was in the 3rd Brute lounge continuing the party when that little meek red-head tennis girl RA came in…..um, yeah, right.  We looked at her like, “Beat it, little girl!”  I think she realized she wasn’t getting anywhere.

Next thing I knew I was lost from everyone and afraid all the seniors were back in Sean Raymond’s room.  I decided to go back and find out.  Walking across campus in the thunder and lightning and heavy snow, I headed to the sole hallway light I could see on in B-Tower.  Totally loaded, I knew I couldn;t stop b/c I wouldn’t be found until spring thaw.  When I got to B-Tower, I went in to my stairwell.  I herad some one crying upstairs in the top apt (B-10?).  It was Sue Sweeny.  Somehow she had gotten separated from her friends and was alone in the dark.  We ended up going over to Chet and Jamie’s room b/c Steve liberace was playing the guitar or something (getting kinda fuzzy here).

Next day (Sunday), we all went to Ott’s and watched the girls get sexually harrassed by the firemen from Syracuse that were stuck in Emmitsburg.  Dirty old men!  Didn’t Pat O’Brien get into a fight with one of them?

That’s all I remember other than I think The Mount had school on Monday and we were all annoyed b/c every other school in the free world was off that day.

Anyone want to share their blizzard story?  (I feel like I am pulling teeth here)

    Hey Molly!
Remember that time senior year you, me and Klepper called freshman and told them that the Registrar’s Office lost their class registration for their upcoming sophomore year? And that they had to come down to B-Commans to re-register? And that they had to bring their copy signed by their advisor? That was so funny……back then.
