The MSM Class of 1993 will be celebrating our fifteenth reunion June 6-7-8, 2008. Our class reunion will take place during The Mount’s Bicentennial, and is bound to be the largest alumni weekend ever to take place. Alumni of all ages and class years will be returning to celebrate this milestone in our college’s history.
Here are some weekend highlights:
Class of 1993 Social
Friday, June 6, 2008 (7pm – 10pm)
John Paul II Plaza - Outside the McGowan Center Lower Level (the old SUB)
In the event of inclement weather, the social will be held indoors…simply go through the glass doors at John Paul II Plaza.
The talented Steve Liberace will be playing live 7pm -8:30pm
BYOB Event – This is a “Bring Your Own” event, so ice down your beverage of choice. Try to get there as early as possible so we can catch up with all our classmates!
Alumni Weekend Kickoff Party
Friday, June 6, 2008 (8:30pm-12:30am)
Mount Cafe/RAT - Patriot Hall Upper Level
Live music by “Four on the Floor.” These guys played last year and were really good. As our social ends, we will move to the upper level of the McGowan Center to join all alumni for the big “kick off.” This event will take place both inside and out, weather permitting. The band will play under the stars on the patio as we hang outside around the new fountain and enjoy the music.
VERY IMPORTANT: This is a cash bar. NO BYOB! Due to the permits for this event, the state of Maryland will not allow attendees to bring their own. The law states that we cannot have both BYOB and cash bar for the kick-off party. As a result, we will not be permitted to bring our coolers upstairs for this event. Please be respectful of Maryland law and the alumni weekend coordinators. Please do not complicate the evening and make us ask you to discard “your” beverages.
Class Prayer Service Saturday, June 7, 2008 (10:30am – 11:00am)
Front steps Science Building by our class bricks and dedicated tree.
Fascilitaed by Fr. Brian Nolan, prayers and a moment of silence will be observed for classmates we have lost. We will also offer prayers celebrating our future – our children. Children are welcome and will be blessed.
Alumni Festival
Saturday, June 7, 2008 (Noon – 4pm)
Echo Field
This event will feature: DJ, food & beverages, shade tents w/ tables and chairs, games & moon bounce for kids, chapter & information tents. CLASS PICTURES will be taken here. Who wouldn’t like drinking cold beers on Echo Filed like the old days?! It’s the ultimate outdoor Mount event.
The Fabulous Greaseband
Saturday, June 7, 2008
(8:00pm – Midnight)
The Fabulous Greaseband & Fireworks. This is “The Main Event” Saturday night. Held outdoors on the Founders Plaza in front of the Terrace. Live music by the Jersey Shore’s Greaseband. This will be a lot of fun! There will be a cash bar…sorry no BYOB. The evening will end with fireworks celebrating The Mount’s Bicentennial.
Kid-Friendly Events?
Lisa Nolan (now Lisa Javier) dropped me an E-mail asking about the events and whether or not they are “kid-friendly.” This is a good question, so I decided to post a comment about it so others may benefit as well.
There are not any events this weekend described as “No kids allowed.” That being said, there are events that don’t really foster an atmosphere for children though. Our Friday evening event “could” be kid-friendly since it starts at 7. There will be somewhat loud music and beer drinking though. It will be outside weather permitting which will allow the kids to wander and play. Not sure if that helps the Moms and Dads out there.
Our prayer service on Saturday morning is very child-friendly as we will be blessing the children.
Also on Saturday, the festival on Echo Field is very kid-friendly. There is a clown with balloons and face painting. Last year, we added a moon bounce which went over very well with the children…..and Regina DiLuigi (Dave must be so proud
). Burgers and dogs on the grill will be perfect for those picky little ones. Sorry, but chicken nuggets don’t usually make the menu at the festival.
Saturday night’s event in The ARCC features The Fabulous Greaseband. I would have to say that this event will be the least child-friendly event of the weekend. It will be later in the evening, dark, and very loud. This is much more of an adult evening. I have often heard people complain when children are present at the Saturday night event b/c they were enjoying a little “break” from their own children.
Sunday’s closing mass is, of course, child-friendly.
I hope that helps you & also the person who first asked – Lisa (Nolan) and her husband Dwayne Javier. They have three children – Julia (7), Aidan(5) and Kamryn (1). She tells me that she loves being a full-time Mom and that the kids are keeping her busy!

WHAT DOES EVERYONE WANT TO DO SATURDAY EVENING? (4pm-8pm)
We have a window of time between the afternoon party/festival on Echo Field and the party featuring the Greaseband Saturday night to do whatever we want.
We have a couple options and I am looking to you guys to determine what we would like to do as a class. Here is what we have…both are attractive choices:
Option#1:
Alumni Cookout on The Terrace
$25 includes BBQ dinner, beer, and wine. This is a great deal and will be a cool setting outside our old Terrace dorm rooms.
Option #2:
We can organize our own class cookout, music, etc, in “C” quad at the aprtments. Class of 1992 did this last year and it was fun. I don’t know if you have seen, but all three apt. quads have grills where the planters used to be. We can cookout here and blast tunes from a nearby apt. If we do this, I have access to C-21 which can be used as the homebase for the fridge and electric for a radio. We can all sign up to bring things for the cookout….burgers, dogs, rolls, condiments, charcoal and lighter fluid, paper products, cooking utensils, sides, etc. We can use the blog as a means of signing up for such items. This will take a little more work, but can be pulled off if we all collaborate.
Now, here is wher you come in. Please make a comment below stating what you think the class would like to do. I’d like to make a decision by May 26, so we can begin to assign duties and contributions.
Thank you!
Rob

Glad you mentioned this Rob, I was beginning to wonder what events our class would be attending. I haven’t officially signed up for any thing yet and wanted to wait until more people wrote about their plans. I’ll get back to you soon!
Erin O'Brien // May 16, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Rob – thanks for organizing the weekend. I think Option #2 sounds perfect. I am happy to bring something or contribute. Let me know. Erin
Molly Kennedy Walsh // May 19, 2008 at 5:44 pm
I agree with Erin – of course! Option #2 sounds like a lot of fun. Erin said she would happy to supply the whole class with beef tenderloin!!! I’ll bring the Bud Bottles! Thanks for organizing Rob – whatever you plan will be great. mol

I happen to agree with Eileen, Erin & Molly….option #2 sounds great. Thanks for organizing this Rob…looking forward to a weekend without my kids…ha ha I mean looking forward to seeing all of you!
Rob Weed // May 21, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Molly, Erin, and Maryanne….
Not sure what to do here. I agree with you guys and would prefer to do something in the quad. Unfortunately, no one seems to be adding their thoughts. I don’t have a problem moving forward with this idea, but if we don’t get any support, it could flop. What do we do? Why isn’t anyone else contributing?
Maureen Williams // May 22, 2008 at 2:31 am
I say let’s plan on something in the quad. I was with Laura Delmonico McIntrye on Saturday and she too is open to bringing whatever is needed… Let’s figure out something soon it will be here before we know it…. Joe Catania what are you brining?? Kim Shern you in??? Diana Leaman what about you??? Steve Wiechecki just call Trisha Mulqueen and give her $50.00 she will pick up hamburgers for you GOD knows you would forget…. Anyone ??? Anyone??? Who’s in???? Kestel no we can’t have it catered.
Who’s in???
Megan Farrell Lawless // May 22, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Rob – Maybe you can list the items we need (burgers, beer, chips, dessert, etc.) and everyone can volunteer to bring something?
Molly Kennedy Walsh // May 22, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Rob – the problem is that not enough people are checking the site. I am sure everyone would love the cookout idea, but how should we organize it? I am happy to send out emails to a bunch of people who have not added their opinions and give them assignments – such as Allison, Jess, Laura, Maureen Barnes, Jim L., Ted, Matt and Janel, Erin Coakley, and Dori. I know they would all contribute. Let me know what you want to do.
Eileen Diffley Thomas // May 22, 2008 at 4:19 pm
I will contribute!! Amy Tomaino and I will get stuff. There’s a store in Emmitsburg right? Maybe we need a list of what is needed so everyone can just sign up next to a specific thing. And maybe some people aren’t checking the blog, would a mass e-mail work better? Just a suggestion!!
Rob Weed // May 22, 2008 at 9:41 pm
OK – YOU HAVE SPOKEN….A COOKOUT IN C-QUAD SATURDAY NIGHT IT IS! LET’S PLAN TO START AROUND 5:30PM.
A list of what we need: EVERYTHING.
Let’s post in this “Comments” section what each of us plans to bring. I have a suggestion: I you plan to bring a dozen hot dogs, bring a dozen rolls. If you plan to bring a dozen burgers, bring a dozens rolls, so we have the same amount of each…good idea?
I, ROB WEED, WILL BRING CHARCOAL, LIGHTER FLUID, GRILL COOKING UTENSILS.
Erin O'Brien // May 23, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Laura McIntyre and I will bring 4 dozen Hamburgers and 4 dozen hot Dogs (with rolls)….I will also bring some Beer and Wine.
Megan Farrell Lawless // May 25, 2008 at 11:46 am
Kestel, Plott, Claire and I will bring desserts (cookies, brownies etc.).
Molly Kennedy Walsh // May 27, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Jessica Shevland and I will bring paper plates, napkins, plastic utensils, and 6 bags of a variety of chips for the group. And of course, a case of BUD!

So glad Bill Birrane signed up to bring “food”. My mouth is watering just thinking about it…it sounds so delicious!
Jen Kestel Young // May 28, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Do I have to bring a desert? Can’t I bring beer?? Maureen, be ready my friend b/c I’m leaving my children at home!
Eileen Diffley Thomas // May 29, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I will bring hot dogs/rolls and whatever else it may look like we need as the weekend gets closer. So far it only looks like about 20 of us will be at this BBQ!
Bill Birrane // May 29, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Rosemary-Scented Pork Loin Stuffed With Roasted Garlic, Dried Apricots and Cranberries and Port Wine Pan Sauce
Susan Roselli Mimnaugh // May 29, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Rob Weed // May 29, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Wow, Bill! Your Mom is really stepping up to the plate! Thank her for making all that stuff for us. Or, you can bring condiments? Or plates and napkins…no one has signed up for that stuff yet. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Frye?
Bill Birrane // May 29, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Chinese Roasted Duck Salad with Endive, Green Beans and Hoisin-Balsamic Vinaigrette
Chrissy Thoms Serrano // May 30, 2008 at 1:29 am
Hi All – i am in for hamburgers. Hope everyone is well – see you soon!
Lisa (Nolan) Javier // May 30, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Hey all!! I will bring plates and napkins and drinks of course!! See you all soon.
Rob Weed // June 1, 2008 at 2:31 pm
It is supposed to be HOT AS HELL on Saturday….The Weather Channel says 87F!
Is anyone feeling like frozen margaritas? I have a kickass blender that can fire up a mean margarita. I’ll bring that if people want to sign up for tequila, limes, margarita mix, ice, etc….all that good stuff. Don’t all you soccer moms buy stuff in bulk and belong to Costco? I know Costco or whatever has that margarita mix stuff by the bucket…don’t they? Just a thought.
Michele "Pinto" Case // June 1, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Kim, Erin, Lynn, Katie and I will bring some kind of side dishes like potato salad and cole slaw……and beer.
Eileen Diffley Thomas // June 2, 2008 at 11:28 am
Since nobody has officially signed up for condiments, then I will, so put me down for ketchup, mayo, mustard, pickles, and if it looks like we still need hotdogs/rolls, I’ll bring those too! And the margarita’s sound fun Rob, but if I want to party all day and night, I have to stick to beer!!
Bill Birrane // June 5, 2008 at 2:08 pm
ok Rob, I will bring an assortment of beverages; water, soda, beers…
Eileen Diffley Thomas // June 6, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Instead of a blizzard Rob, we’re having a heat wave! Please tell me Bicentennial Hall is air conditioned??? See you all soon
Rob Weed // June 6, 2008 at 2:09 pm
YES! They are beautiful!
They make the dorms we lived in look like prison cells!
We may as well have been wearing orange jumpsuits back then!
